Following the successful 2016 rewatering of Banyule Billabong, Melbourne Water (MW) again secured an allocation of water from the Victorian Environmental Water Holder. On September 20th Warringal Conservation Society and Banyule Council staff joined MW for a smoking ceremony conducted by Uncle Bill Nicholson to mark the pumps being switched on. The pumps ran for three weeks and the water gauge reached 1metre. Zillions of weeds have been drowned but the ducks and frogs love it. We hope that the water will remain for several months; the outcomes will be as interesting to see as last time. Will lots of native plants emerge? Many thanks to Melbourne Water for this initiative.
