World Rivers Day
Sunday 22 September 2019

World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world's waterways. It highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourages the improved stewardship of rivers around the world.

The Yarra River is Melbourne’s most important natural asset, and all Melburnians are dependent on it. It provides 70% of our piped water and its valley is world renowned for its vineyards and natural beauty. It is a very important prensence though our own Banyule area and supports many of our fauna and flora that depend on river, wetlands, swamps and billabongs. It is centrepiece of many our cultural events and plays host to recreational and nature-based activities. To find out more about the Yarra go to one of it's main advocate - the Yarra Riverkeeper.
